Job Description

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson is currently accepting applications for 6-8 week Academic Coach to support with academic success through summer learning programs.  This is an independent contractor position.

Summary of Position:

The Academic Coach works with Club leadership and Youth Development Professionals to ensure high-quality programming and youth development practices are implemented throughout the summer. Boys & Girls Clubs offers daily access to a broad range of programs in five core program areas (Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation) and several specialized initiatives. All programs are designed to drive positive outcomes for youth and reinforce necessary life skills. During the summer program the Program Coach will assist with educational programming, coach for stronger youth engagement and lead assessment responsibilities to gather data.  

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Encourages BGCT “Rules of Engagement” and incorporates into day to day interactions with staff
  • Assist Program Directors and summer staff with program planning, daily preparation, program environment and facilitation practices to boost learning
  • Lead the Club survey/assessment process, including registering members for surveys, facilitating surveys, and gather reports from our Member Management System
  • Analyze data and interpret results to implement immediate changes in the Club to reach goals and outcome metrics in literacy and math
  • Provides timely status updates as it relates to all program commitments and assessment deliverables
  • Attend regular meetings to share information key to the program success


  • Bachelor’s degree in education or other related field with one year teaching experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Valid AZ teacher’s certificate and fingerprint clearance card

Knowledge, Ability and Skills:

  • Developmental instructional strategies, programs, materials for grades K-8 or 9-12
  • Prior experience in K-8 instruction with instructing and meeting the needs of diverse learners.
  • Assessing, collecting data and diagnosing needs
  • Delivering and evaluating interventions
  • Scientifically Based Research and Programs
  • Experience with cognitive coaching, peer coaching, and/or mentoring, Coach for Success
  • Skilled at collaboration
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Tactful and diplomatic; collaborative
  • Positive attitude about Summer Learning– students, staff, administration, and community
  • Knowledge of high-quality youth development and management practices
  • Knowledge of diverse programs, continuous quality improvement and program evaluation
  • Ability to maintain and cultivate excellent community relationships and possess excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and communicate (in writing and orally) with a variety of members
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with and maintain productive and effective working relationships with organization staff and management in accomplishing goals and objectives
  • Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, and Excel

Pre-employment background check is part of our hiring process.  

This will be an independent contractor position with the individual devoting 10-20 hours a week to working with youth in the clubhouse.  Pay rate will be $35/hour.
